drfefe2
I had my first experience with Nakhla Zagloul last weekend with no screen, coals directly on tobacco, and it was one of the most amazing Shisha experiences I have ever had. It was surprisingly smooth, tasty and buzzed so big that I honestly could not move even if I wanted to. I urge every Shisha smoker to try it. Then to my surprise I looked on the package and found that we were smoking the "light" version! I packed this in a normal small egyptian bowl. Is this ok? how far above the rim should I pack it and how dense? I pretty much just sprinkled and patted, and if there was a bad draw I poked holes from the bottom (kindof like mushrat's video on tombac except form the bottom). Is there a special old style bowl I can buy that would help me? Will quick lites be acceptable even though there is no screen? I used exoticas and they worked fine.My local store sells the heavy Zagloul and lite only, but I looked on Nakhla's website and there are a couple more varieties of unflavored tobacco. http://www.nakhla.com/GroupsData.aspx Can anyone tell me what the difference between all of these are and where I can buy bata, khan el khalil and kass super?Thank you, Jackson

MrMoodz
When I smoke Zag I prefer to use foil. I mix a couple of drops ofhoney with it and it smokes good with foil or I will mix it with vanilla, caramel, or other neutral shisha flavors. Good stuff. Never tried the Zag lite before though. GreatPigHookah
Awsome! I'm gonna try it. I got a box of Nakhla Zag in last week and haven't opened it yet. I think I'm gonna try it with foil first, using exotica coals.
Enjoivolcom
I did that last weekend with this tobacco called tonic pumpkin pie, killed the flavor but the buzz was crazy and you can take like a second long drag and have enough smoke like if you were to take a huge normal one. i dont like it because i smoke for the flavor. atticus
Yeah, I have smoked Zaghoul a couple times at a local hookah bar, traditional style with the coals on the tobacco. Talk about a buzz! It was notoriously known and the stuff so strong that even the Egyptian owners would not smoke it. Word to the wise though: the smell will stick with the hose! The owners of the place had several zaghoul only hoses, and I could understand why the stuff could taint any session if you just use the same hose.Good luck with the zag though man. It's pretty good stuff. Edited September 29, 2008 by atticus

NarghileNights
All of the Saudi guys that hang around the bar will smoke zag occasionally. When they do it is usually out of a HUGE bowl with 3 to 4 to 5 golden QL's on it - no foil.
drfefe2
so no one has tried the other non-flavoured ones? Khan el khalil, kass super and what not? I found a bowl on HC for traditional style, but it comes with a Shisha, not sold separately. Where can I get a traditional style bowl?
Guest DJ_HOSSEIX
For those of you who like the traditional and dry non flavored tobaccos try soaking it in warm tea for an hour or so and then smoking it.

thecyrax
I've never seen one here in the states or on any websites, but in Iran to smoke hookah with the traditional Tombak with huge-omg-pile-of-coals they have a special type of head that has a series of flexible wires around it.... kinda hard to explain but it keeps the charcoal from falling out.I've got a couple of them, I could put up pics to show you what I mean....EDIT: Here ya go: [attachment=2334:PIcsss55_002.jpg] Edited October 2, 2008 by thecyrax

It is a little different from smoking a pipe though, as it's got a slightly off taste/feel because of going through the water.

TizaNabi
I bought 10 packs of Zaghloul in Jerusalem 2 weeks ago. They only had the light kind. I have seen also a few times on the Nakhla site the other 6 kinds but never see them in Israel. Now I don't think you should put the coals directly on it. It has no glycerin in in, but molasses a bit it does. It'll smoke better regular with foil or screen. The light is pretty weak. I sometimes buy Iranian shisha that are purely dry leaves and must be washed (I poke a few holes in a bag and rinse once.) Then you squeeze out a lot of the water. The remaining water keeps the coals from burning right on the shisha, but Nakhla Zaghloul I like with foil. It does get gummy, so I bought a few plastic hoses which wash well and dry in no time. The bowl needs a good washing too!

And don't make a big batch or it will grow mold on the top like my 90 gram did in its plastic container. GreatPigHookah
Well, I tried out the Nakhla Zaghoul the other night and I really enjoyed it. I had read to NOT put coals directly on the tobacco, as that is not how Zaghoul should be smoked, and that the packaging was so poor it would be dryer than it should be when I recieved it. They don't seal the packaging like they do with their other products. I added a 1/4 tsp of glycerine to a bowls worth of tobacco and mixed it up thoroughly. Smoked it like you would regular Nakhla (with foil) and maybe a touch more heat, and it smoked and tasted great. I found it to taste much like it smells, cigar-like but better than a cigar tastes, IMO. Didn't get big clouds, but the flavor was full and enjoyable. My wife and I both enjoyed it and I'll probably keep some in my stash now. If you haven't yet, give it a try. I really like the tobacco flavor and will probably try mixing this stuff with other flavors of Nakhla as well.
ColibriDon
Well this stuff is definitely going into my next order. haha Good to know that people have had some good experiences with this.
Cerritus
Wow. I'm smoking Nakhla Zag for the first time, no foil and enough coals to cover the top of the bowl. It tastes about like really good pipe tobacco, but is very smooth. The buzz is the strongest I've ever gotten too. Definitely worth buying a box to try. Hippo_Master
I don't know if Nak. Zag. is so much "Traditional" in anything but it's lack of a fruit flavor...Th etraditional stuff isn't made in a factory for the most part (there are exceptions), and it's not made with artificial fruit flavors and only the highest quality hand-cured tobacco. If any of you have had any Desi Merli before, it's an Indian style tobacco, that's very traditional. I get it locally for 5 bucks for 250 grams. It is "flavorless", but packed with a multitude of natural flavors, including spices and foral notes, and a tobacco base. I only know of one place that has any knowledge describing how to prepare actual traditonal tobacco, and I guess that place is banned so I can't mention their name. Nakhla Zag. is more of just tobacco without any flavoring, but it is very good, and unlike traditional mo'assell, molasses isn't the only or main liquid ingredient, so it is a fairly more industrialized "traditional tobacco" flavor. Kass Super on the other hand is more traditional, it is also by Nakhla.
